Vietnamese Traditional Material

“Lacquer” – the Inspirer

Lacquer is created by a beautiful blend of traditional artisanship. Passion and delicacy in each one of the eleven steps to finish the material surface. Dedication and detailedness in manufacturing and hand-coloring. Those are the inner values of a contemporary “inspirer”.

A la Maison is very lucky and proud to be able to receive and to incorporate this material more deeply into modern lifestyle, in order to providing a better living space for each family.

“Natural wood” – The skillful playwright

Wood and wood grain, the durability and art that come from nature. Without any extravagant manufacturing, modifying, everything is exactly-as-it-is. Valuable natural wood can be used to create different product lines, buildings, projects, contributing to put “creativity” in a myriad of “scripts” without being repetitive or obsolete. And yes, that’s why we respectfully give the name of “the Skillful playwright” for this material.

“Dong Go” (Mounded copper) – An experienced D.O.P

Talking about copper, a scrupulously crafted copper statue would come to anyone’s mind. Copper has a 4000-year history, “it” contains physical properties and historical values that need to be preserved and developed. Understanding the mission, A La Maison went on an assiduous search to find new grounds for this material to shine with different mounding, shaping etc. which bear tradition and innovative usage capability together.

Never disappointing A La Maison, copper has further proven its potentials. Being flexible yet hard enough, exquisite yet retrograding. Its formability bends curvily, edgily, and completely in control on the “material catwalk.” Exciting and adventurous, mounded copper deserves the acclaimed “D.O.P” title that will last for a lifetime.

“Bamboo” - The mysterious figure

Bamboo is another conventional material and applied in many modern architecture works. It has the physical properties that have been transformed from the fairy tales of Thanh Giong to Rong Community Hall up in the West Highlands, all of which clearly depict the Vietnamese culture. Bamboo also manifests itself in different forms and shapes, different weaving techniques. “The mysterious figure” urges us to discover new possibilities to incorporate it into living spaces in A La Maison. Gorgeous, diverse, constantly and unpredictably reforming itself, words cannot describe the beauty of bamboo.

“Ceramics” - The famous warrior with a mystical glaze

Neither similar to natural wood that is utterly rare nor as refined as lacquer, Ceramics is made from the mundane clay, then covered in a inspirational glass glaze. After a long firing about 1200 degree celsius, each ceramic piece comes out a singular being with a particular shape and chromic characteristics. Mystical and mysterious are the words given to this warrior after every phase that it gets transformed, outcomes of which are unpredictable even by the maker himself.

“Handmade leather” - A time traveller

Handmade leather is the symbol of Asian contemporary spirit between Vietnamese and Chinese culture. The milestone of this material dated back about 500 years ago. Besides the decorative value, the strength, flexibility and durability of the material give us the name “A time traveller”

“Traditional fabrics” - The time strolling guest

“There’s no one in this world who can control the time. The only thing humans can do is to let it go by meaningfully.”

With a mind headed towards cultural origin, traditional fabrics of Vietnamese ethnic groups give us the feeling of a time strolling guest. They helps us see the harmonic sophistication of the old and new, admire the spirit, the customs of our own peoples, and maintain our culture through every little knit, every single thread. Dyed with natural colors, each hand-knitted pattern embraces a whole story itself, and contains a particular culture, very distinctive and special.
